Class B3 Large Town
There were nine award winners.
Six were awarded Silver and three Gold. The Whitworth Hall and Gardens Trophy went to Durham.
In the spring this stunning historic cathedral city was looking breath-taking. Floral displays were of a very high standard and numerous flowering cherry trees at their peak. In summer many prominent sites were well planted with colourful bedding displays of a very high standard.
The whole city enjoys the benefit of a very large number of trees, thus creating a very green environment. The judges were extremely impressed by the level of cleanliness and lack of litter or dog fouling.
The city is strongly committed to the green agenda, encouraging residents and businesses to care well for their environment by recycling and limiting the use of herbicides.
