Class B2 Towns
There were nine award winners in 2011.
Four were award Silver medals, three Silver Gilt and two Gold. The Northumbria Tourist Board trophy again went to Morpeth.
Morpeth is a busy market town, a major retail and business centre and a tourist destination. It has made a remarkable recovery in recent years after the severe flooding.
The judges were impressed by the new Soroptomists’ planting of a helix of spring bulbs, the involvement of children in the well-kept Rotary garden, the improvements to the Millennium Green, the spring bulbs in planters outside the Moulin Rouge restaurant and Rutherford’s store, and the excellent displays in the Sanderson Arcade area.
