D1 Urban Community

There were six entries in this class. One received a Bronze Award, four a Silver and a Gold medal and the Durham City Trophy went to Eston.

Eston is an enlarged village that is a suburb of Middlesbrough   It was founded on iron mining and this heritage is very clear today.  The summer judging was on a day of record rainfall, with areas inaccessible due to flooding.  It was amazing how the tubs and other plantings seemed to be unaffected by the extremely heavy rain.  The overall impression was that of a community fully dedicated to producing the very best possible for the area and with a huge ambition to do well in the campaign.
