Class C1 Small City

There were three entries.  Washington won Silver and Thornaby Silver Gilt.

Darlington won a Silver Gilt award and the Scottish and Newcastle Trophy.

An excellent entry.  The town centre is very well designed with hard landscaping, refurbished seating and litterbins of a high standard, and with a most unusual water feature. 

Litter and graffiti are handled well on a daily basis.  South Park is a beautiful large park with well-designed flowerbeds, offering facilities for the community and a special classroom for schoolchildren and their projects. 

The recycling plant is impressive, as are the themed roundabouts which brighten the street scene.
