Newcastle and Sunderland both gained Silver Gilt awards but Sunderland took the North East Co-op Trophy.

Sunderland is to be congratulated on its environmental responsibility. The city was exceptionally clean.

The judges liked the new sensory garden in Barnes Park. A tremendous amount of work has gone into the planting of the vast number of beds throughout the city.  Herrington Country Park is an excellent facility and Hylton Dene, which has been reclaimed, is now a pleasant place to walk and a scientifically valuable resource.
