Eston - Silver Gilt award
The discovery of ironstone in 1850 not only changed the small village of Eston but also the landscape and the community for good.
In the last few years the Eston Residents' Association has campaigned to rebuild the community and commemorate the area's industrial past.
The heritage sculptures are well designed and with the excellent planting, add much to the area. The Association works determinedly for the community, building relationships and raising funds. The whole community is a fine example of true northern grit and a source of inspiration to others. If the long drawn out process of development of the centre is resolved soon, it will provide extra sites for even more excellent floral displays.
